The Aero Club of New England will present the 2015 Godfrey L. Cabot Award to Abe Karem, Founder, President & Chief Designer Karem Aircraft, at a luncheon in Boston on June 5.
Mr. Karem has developed over 30 aircraft designs. He is best known for his achievements that have lead to the development of the Predator family of UAVs. These UAVs have revolutionized modern aviation with their use in both civilian and defense applications. His designs have fundamentally defined the basic configuration for the majority of fixed-wing and single-rotor UAVs. Mr. Karem developed and patented the Optimum Speed Rotor (OSR) and the OSR- equipped A-160 Hummingbird VTOL UAV, which demonstrated rotorcraft performance and efficiency surpassing any contemporary helicopter.
The Godfrey L. Cabot Award, established in 1952, honors and perpetuates the name of one of the founders and long time presidents of the Club. Cabot Award winners shall be individuals or teams who have made unique, significant, and unparalleled contributions to advance and foster aviation or space flight.
