Cirrus Aircraft Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Dale Klapmeier is planning to step down from his position as CEO during the first half of 2019, according to an announcement by Cirrus on Wednesday. The company says a search is currently underway for a new CEO and that it will be considering both internal and external candidates for the position. After stepping down, Klapmeier will be transitioning to a senior advisory role.
“Transitioning out of day-to-day operations will give me the opportunity to focus on long-term strategic opportunities,” said Klapmeier. “I could not be more confident in the team and I am excited for what lies ahead for the entire Cirrus family. For Cirrus Aircraft employees, partners and owners around the world, the best is yet to come.”
Klapmeier founded Cirrus Aircraft with his brother, Alan, in 1984. He has Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and has served on aviation boards and participated in programs including EAA’s Young Eagles, the Red Tail Project and NASA’s Aeronautics Research & Technology Roundtable. He was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2014.
