With a wide range of modification services in its portfolio, Blackhawk Aerospace finds EAA AirVenture a must-go show.

Founded by Chauncey Spencer II, son of groundbreaking aviator Chauncey Spencer, the African Americans in Aviation Traveling Museum is the result of two decades of research conducted with the hope of preserving and sharing the history of black aviators in the U.S. More information about Spencer and the museum is available at ces-ii.com.

In 2017, Stratos showed up at AirVenture with a slick single-engine experimental jet. (It’s the blue one in the video.) This year, they’re following up with the 716X, a larger, faster version that’s also initially a kit airplane. It will eventually be sold as certified, six-seat aircraft. Guardian Avionics brought its smartLink 851 connected cockpit technology to AirVenture 2021. The iPad-based system acts as a multi-function display along with including a carbon monoxide detector and USB charger.

Three years ago a company called Opener showed up at AirVenture with one of the weirdest flying machines ever, an E-VTOL called the BlackFly. This year at Oshkosh, they demonstrated it twice and the machine is in full production. They’ll sell you one so you can fly it for yourself. No word on price, though.

It’s a harsh fact of aeronautical life that pilots don’t train enough. Redbird, the simulator company, has developed an inexpensive serial app that’s intended to address this with scenario-based training that can be flown in a simulator or an airplane.
