Originally designed by the National Center of Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in 2006 for the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services industry, the "HEMS Weather Tool" is catching fire with all pilots who fly below 5,000 feet. Users can zoom down to street level and it provides a color-coded graphical representation of the flight category, ceiling, visibility, icing, temperature, humidity and winds, all below 5,000 feet and at one thousand foot intervals.
