Nonprofit organization New Mexico Aero Education (NMAE) is set to hold its seventh annual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) event for students ages 13 through 21 this September. The New Mexico Aviation Aerospace STEM Expo will feature hands-on displays, science demonstrations and 50-plus general aviation and military aircraft, along with offering opportunities for students to speak to pilots, engineers, educators and industry experts. The theme for this year’s event is Women in Aviation and Science.

“Our goal is to provide the necessary outreach to each attendee to help them better understand general aviation, [the] aerospace industry, opportunities for employment in NM and the vital role of the U.S. Military,” said the NMAE. “We want these students to understand firsthand what they need to do to better prepare themselves academically to pursue a challenging career in aviation.”

According to the NMAE, over 24,000 people have participated in the program to date. The organization says approximately 3000 students were in attendance in 2018 and it is expecting between 3000 and 3500 to participate this year. The 2019 New Mexico Aviation Aerospace STEM Expo will take place on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Roswell International Air Center, Roswell, New Mexico.
