Embraer delivered the first of its new E195-E2 passenger jets to aircraft leasing company AerCap and Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras on Thursday. The aircraft was handed over in a ceremony at Embraer’s facility in São José dos Campos, Brazil. Azul has an order for 50 additional E195-E2s with deliveries of the next five expected this year.

“Today’s delivery is a momentous occasion,” said Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO John Slattery. “[The E195-E2 is] the largest commercial aircraft Embraer has ever built. Passengers are going to love the new interior and airlines are going to love the extraordinary operating economics. It’s absolutely ideal for Azul’s low-fare business model and for AerCap’s fleet portfolio.”

As previously reported by AVweb, the E195-E2 received type certificates from Brazil’s Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC), the FAA and EASA last April. The aircraft can be configured for 120 seats in two classes or up to 146 seats in a single class. According to Embraer, maintenance costs on the E2 are 20 percent lower and the aircraft burns 25.4 percent less fuel per seat than the previous generation E195. The Pratt & Whitney GTF PW1900G-powered E195-E2 has a range of 2,600 NM, top cruise speed of Mach 0.82 and maximum payload of 35,604 pounds.

The first model of Embraer’s E2 family, the E190-E2, received FAA, EASA and ANAC type certifications in February 2018. The smaller E175-E2 is still in development, with an entry-into-service target of 2021.
