As if operating a small, tightly staffed Part 135 operation or flight department isn’t difficult enough, the FAA doesn’t necessarily make it any easier. The Agency requires periodic recurrency training, and the record-keeping requirements for this can overwhelm a small flight operation or charter company.
Jeppesen is addressing this with its GOM (General Operations Manual) training system. This is a computer-based training program that’s entirely online, allowing a pilot in need of training to sit in front of a computer and complete the regulation and text review portions of recurrent training. The system automatically logs the training work, so the operator can make these records available to the FAA if asked. The system is fully customizable for each customer and can be adapted for Part 91 operators using safety management systems for their ops specs.
