Airbus is contemplating a name change for Bombardier C Series jets, according to Bloomberg News. The name reportedly under consideration is A200, with the CS100 becoming the A210 and the CS300 switching to the A230. Airbus acquired the C Series program in October 2017 after an anti-dumping petition was filed against Bombardier by Boeing in April of that year.
The trade dispute centered around an order for 75 CS100s placed by Delta and contributed to significantly slowing production of CS100s until the U.S. International Trade Commission struck down the proposed 300% tariff this January. 2017 C Series production was also affected by availability issues with Pratt & Whitney PW1500G turbofan engines.
As Airbus gets production back up to speed, Reutersreports that the company is preparing to enter negotiations with United Technologies regarding “the price of components and services for the Bombardier CSeries.” So far, Airbus has not commented on either the potential name change or negotiations with United Technologies. Airbus and Bombardier have discussed opening up a production line for the C Series at Airbus’ Mobile, Alabama, facility.
