On August 14 2015, Henry Saine and Colin Ebeling (the movie makers behind the 2013 breakout hit film Bounty Killer) have announced their next project, a short film based on Rinker Buck’s best-selling memoir Flight of Passage. Their company, Just Chorizo Productions, Inc., has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for this short film.”In 1966, Rinker and Kern Buck, aged 15 and 17, rebuilt a Piper Cub in their backyard barn. Later that summer, the two brothers flew the small aircraft from their home in rural New Jersey to San Diego in six days, making them the youngest aviators ever to fly coast to coast,” the creators explain, “Their journey captured the attention of newspapers, television stations and eventually the entire country, catapulting the pair to celebrity status amongst aviators and common folk alike.”A few years ago, while learning to fly, Colin received a copy of Flight of Passage from a dear friend. Upon finishing the book, he immediately passed it on to Henry, saying “We’re making this into a movie someday.” Henry quickly tore through the book and agreed, vowing to do whatever it takes to bring Rinker’s story to the big screen. Fueled with passion, the boys of Just Chorizo tracked down Rinker Buck and told him of their dreams. Inspired by their moxie, Rinker agreed to let Henry and Colin be the guardians of Flight of Passage.”Rinker and Kern’s story is so full of warmth, humor and adventure that I fell in love with it immediately,” says director, Henry Saine, “It’s an important story, not just for aviation, but to show young people, or anyone for that matter, that you can create your own odyssey, that you don’t have to be bitten by a radioactive spider or get hit by a magical comet to do something great or head out after your life’s passion. You truly have the freedom to become your own hero, not just with flying, but with anything in life. It’s a really inspiring journey.”In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a link to watch the film when it’s complete for $10, your name in the credits for $25, exclusive set photos for $35, and more. Backers can also pledge $75 for a personalized video from Christian Pitre, star of Bounty Killer or $500 for a chance to visit the set and be suited up as a crop duster pilot and put IN the action as a featured extra!
