An Indiana farmer has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he fired at an occupied agricultural aircraft during aerial application operations last year. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kedrick Miller, 41, of Thorntown on Aug. 5 following an investigation into the July 18, 2025, shooting. Prosecutors also charged Miller with attempting to disrupt the operation of an aircraft, criminal recklessness and intimidation.
Pilot Found Bullet Hole After Flight
According to court documents, the pilot heard a pop during the flight and later discovered a bullet hole in the aircraft after landing. Investigators were told Miller had complained about agricultural aircraft operating near his property because he said the airplanes frightened his goats, causing them injuries or pregnancy losses. An aerial application representative said Miller had a drift notice intended to protect his property from nearby spraying. The pilot told investigators the spray equipment had been shut off before the aircraft passed over Miller’s property.
“They’re lucky I’m not a better shot,” Miller allegedly told an aerial application representative, according to court documents.
Four Felony Charges Filed
The Boone County Prosecutor’s Office charged Miller with attempted murder, a Level 1 felony; attempt to commit disrupting the operation of an aircraft, a Level 4 felony; criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony; and intimidation, a Level 6 felony. Miller was arrested without incident and taken to the Boone County Jail. The FAA and FBI participated in the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
“This case serves as a reminder that decisions made in the heat of the moment can have serious and lasting consequences.” Boone County Sheriff Tony Harris said in a statement reported by WRTV.
Harris said firing at an occupied aircraft could endanger the pilot as well as people on the ground if the aircraft were forced down or a bullet missed its target. Authorities said Miller was being held without bond at the Boone County Jail following his arrest.
