Garmin’s G1000H NXi integrated flight deck system for helicopters has received its IFR certification, according to a company announcement on Thursday. The certification was achieved in a Bell 407GXi, a model that was introduced at the 2018 Heli-Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. G1000H NXi features include Garmin’s helicopter terrain awareness warning system (HTAWS), helicopter synthetic vision technology (HSVT), WireAware wire-strike avoidance technology, wireless connectivity and night vision goggle compatibility.
“In collaboration with Bell, we are excited to bring the first IFR certified Garmin integrated flight deck to the single-engine rotorcraft market,” said Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales and Marketing Carl Wolf. “The G1000H NXi gives helicopter owners and operators a modern glass flight deck that boasts an unprecedented level of performance, a superior feature set and a level of innovation and integration beyond what is found on a single-engine IFR certified helicopter today.”
Bell recently confirmed that it has submitted the 407GXi to the U.S. Navy’s Advanced Helicopter Training System competition. IFR capability is a requirement for the competition, which is being held to find a replacement for the Navy’s current training fleet of Bell TH-57 Sea Rangers. The 407GXi received its IFR STC from the FAA on Aug. 15.
