DC-3s Fly Over AirVenture

Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • Approximately 20 DC-3 aircraft performed a formation flight over AirVenture Oshkosh, exceeding the restricted airspace ceiling.
  • This flight was separate from a previously planned event called "The Last Time," which involved over 30 DC-3s in Rock Falls, Illinois.
  • Disagreements on the event's format prevented a combined mass arrival and display at AirVenture.
  • A video of the DC-3s' arrival at Oshkosh is available.

Did The Last Time get the last word on a huge formation flight of DC-3s over AirVenture Oshkosh? About 20 DC-3s flew over the grounds, apparently above the 2,500-foot ceiling of the restricted airspace over Wittman Regional Airport Monday. The Last Time attracted more than 30 DC-3s to Rock Falls, Ill., about an hour south of Oshkosh. The original plan was for a mass arrival of the aircraft and display at AirVenture but the two groups couldn’t agree on the form and structure of such an event.
