Garmin’s G500H TXi touchscreen flight display has now been certified, the company announced on Thursday. The display, which was designed for normal category VFR helicopters, is compatible with existing system sensors in rotorcraft equipped with the original G500H. It is available in 10.6-inch, 7-inch portrait and 7-inch landscape versions. Garmin also announced that a new software upgrade for its G500H TXi-compatible GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigator series has been approved for helicopters.

“Based on the success and adoption rate of the original G500H series, we’re excited to bring the next generation G500H TXi displays to the helicopter market,” said Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales and Marketing Carl Wolf. “The growth-oriented G500H TXi boasts innovative features with vibrant graphical displays and greater situational awareness tools, and when paired with the GTN, pilots receive a harmonious avionics suite that adds even more capability in the cockpit.”

G500H TXi features include Garmin’s five-color Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS), WireAware wire-strike avoidance technology and optional 3D synthetic vision. The GTN 650/750 upgrade includes options for a QWERTY keyboard, descent VNAV and the ability to set an airport as a user-defined waypoint.
