Tecnam’s P2012 Traveller has been awarded its FAA type certificate, the company announced on Friday. The 11-seat commuter was designed by company founder Luigi Pascale, who passed away in March 2017. It is powered by two 375-HP Lycoming TEO-540-C1A engines, has a maximum cruise speed of 194 knots, greater than 950-NM range and useful load of approximately 3073 pounds. The P2012 first flew in July 2016 and is equipped with a Garmin G1000NXi-based avionics suite. It received its EASA type certification in December 2018.
“The FAA certification of the P2012 Traveller marks a significant milestone for the Tecnam team, our very first commuter airline aircraft,” said Tecnam managing director Giovanni Pascale. “We have embraced new challenges and developed new skills. … We dedicate this important achievement to Luigi and Giovanni Pascale, the two brothers, my grandfather and my great-uncle, who started all this in 1948.”
Cape Air, the U.S. launch customer for the P2012, is expecting its first two Travellers to arrive at the airline’s base in Hyannis, Massachusetts, in the next few weeks. The P2012s, which will be ferried from Capua, Italy, are the first of a 100-aircraft order. As previously reported by AVweb, Tecnam also signed an agreement with Boeing at AirVenture this year that made Boeing the sole provider of aftermarket spare parts and distribution services for the Traveller.
