A SCAT Airlines Boeing 737-300 burst into flames Tuesday when an oxygen cylinder exploded at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan. Passengers had already disembarked and the airliner was waiting for its next flight, so no one was on board when the fire began, the Daily Mail reported. Dramatic video of the fire shows flames erupting from the fuselage with 15-foot flames and black smoke. Firefighters were able to douse the fire with a water cannon, but the aircraft was destroyed, according to the Daily Mail report.
The incident also caused further damage to the reputation of SCAT ofKazakhstan,which was recently ranked among the worst carriers in the world byAirlineRatings.com of Australia. SCAT was among five carriers with a one-star rating out of seven, out of 449 examined, and is banned from operating in European Union countries.In January 2013, all 21 people on board a SCAT Airlinesregional jet died when it crashed in Kazakhstan in heavy fog.
