AOPA’s popular electronic flight instructor refresher course (eFIRC) provides a customized way for flight instructors to fulfill their currency requirement by offering 13 pilot-selectable electives – including new seaplane and helicopter elements.In addition to the seaplane and helicopter elective added for 2015, the course also offers electives that have been built on existing ASI courses, such as Teaching VFR into IMC avoidance, Aging Aircraft, Mountain Flying, Cockpit Weather and Public Benefit Flying. Kings Avionics of Henderson, Nevada, has completed the first field installation of a Garmin GRA55 radar altimeter and a Garmin GI205 remote display screen on any helicopter platform. This installation, on a Bell 206L-1 for a rotary fleet operator, was completed in advance of the 2017 mandate that all Part 135 operators have a radar altimeter installed.
