North Dakota state Rep. Liz Conmy and a pilot were killed Saturday when a Beechcraft F33A Bonanza crashed shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport near Minneapolis. Authorities said the aircraft went down in a park area in Brooklyn Park at about 11:51 a.m. local time, where it caught fire following impact. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the accident and extinguished the fire, but there were no survivors.
According to the FAA, two people were aboard the airplane. The aircraft, identified as a 1991 Beechcraft F33A Bonanza, had departed Crystal Airport and was en route to Park Rapids Municipal Konshok Field. Available flight data indicated the airplane entered a left turn shortly after takeoff during the initial climb phase. Weather at Crystal around the time of the accident included calm wind, 10 miles visibility, scattered to broken clouds between 10,000 and 11,000 feet, a temperature of about 55 degrees and an altimeter setting around 30.01.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating the accident.
Conmy’s death was confirmed by the North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party.
“We are completely heartbroken and gutted by the loss of Representative Liz Conmy,” the party said in a post on X. “Her death is a profound loss for our state.”
North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong directed flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of Conmy’s interment and issued a statement through his office.
