A Cessna C560 Citation V crashed shortly after takeoff from Fulton County Airport (FTY) in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, killing all four people onboard. The aircraft went down in a football field in English Park at approximately 12:10 p.m. local time, about two miles from FTY. The aircraft’s destination was Tennessee’s Millington-Memphis Airport (NQA) There was a post-crash fire and it has been reported that the aircraft was nearly completely destroyed.
One of the victims has been identified as Wei Chen, a graduate of the University of Memphis and CEO of the Memphis-based Sunshine Enterprise, Inc. Chen is believed to have been piloting the aircraft, which was registered to Chen Aircrafts LLC. He was known for being the first Chinese citizen to fly a single-engine airplane around the world. Three other victims, reportedly also Sunshine Enterprise employees, have not yet been identified.
The accident caused damage to a nearby home, but there were no injuries to anyone on the ground reported. The NTSB is onsite and investigating.
