A United Airlines flight crew heading for Denver made a U-turn and returned to Dulles Airport, near Washington, D.C., Monday night after passengers subdued a man who had run toward the cockpit in a threatening way. “Declaring an emergency due to a passenger disturbance,” one of the flight crew told ATC. “He ran forward toward the cockpit and he is being restrained by other passengers.” Cellphone video shot by a passenger shows the man, bruised and crying, being held down in the aisle by several other men.

On Tuesday, a government source told CNN there was nothing in the man’s background to suggest he has a connection to terrorists, and no weapons were found. He was taken to a hospital from Dulles, and it was not clear Tuesday morning if he was still there or had been released. None of the other passengers on the flight were hurt, and a United spokesperson said they would be flown to Denver on Tuesday.
