AOPA this week opened its application period for student pilots who are looking for help with the cost of flight training. The AOPA Foundation will award almost $120,000 to help teens learn to fly, study in an accredited aviation program or attend a summer camp with an aviation or aerospace theme. Applications will be accepted online until Aug. 9. Aspiring pilots looking for help with the expenses of education and training can also find many other sources of scholarships in the aviation community.

EAA offers scholarships for flight training, aviation summer camp and college programs. NBAA disburses about $100,000 every year in scholarships for students and working professionals. Sun ‘n Fun and the Florida Air Museum annually distributemore than $400,000 in financial aid, mainly to local students attending the local Aerospace Center for Excellence.The AEA Educational Foundation awards about $125,000 in scholarships annually to students pursuing a career in the GA maintenance and aircraft electronics industry. Applications will be posted in October for the 2016-17 school year.Women in Aviation Intl. also awards up to $500,000 per year in a wide variety of scholarships for flight training and career advancement. WAI scholarships for this year have already been awarded, but information about 2016 opportunities will be posted in July. Many local pilot groups also raise money for scholarships for local applicants. More sources of aid are listed at the FAA website.
