Pilots from regional airline Trans States now have a direct pathway to the Frontier Airlines flight deck. An agreement was signed by the two airlines this week guaranteeing Trans States pilots a first officer position with Frontier after as little as two years of service with Trans States.Trans States operates a fleet of Embraer 145 aircraft and Frontier is an Airbus A319/320/321 operator. Last November Frontier announced a large aircraft order and its intent to triple its fleet during the next 10 years. Frontier now has nearly 200 aircraft on order and about 76 aircraft in its fleet.

Forecast pilot retirements are looming, demand for pilots is continuing to grow and regional operators are looking for ways to address their future pilot staffing needs. Frontier says flow programs like this will become more the norm as they give a clear pathway and progression for potential pilots. Current Trans States pilots with the requisite time in service will be eligible to apply for this program immediately, while new Trans States pilots may apply as soon as they have completed training.
