Almost 5,000 people attended Women in Aviation’s annual convention in Nashville. The meeting wrapped up Sunday and the group celebrated awarding more than $10 million in scholarships since the inception of the scholarship program in 1995. “Thousands of women made powerful connections this week that will enhance their lives and careers for years to come,” said Women in Aviation International (WAI) President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “Attendees and exhibitors alike agree that we continue to raise the bar for energy, support, enthusiasm and camaraderie.”
In addition to the seminars, speeches and other WAI business, the convention features a job fair where participants can set up prearranged interviews with airline recruiters. There were more than 2400 registrants but according to a CBS News report most of those were men. The group also increased its participation with the Girl Scouts of America, which has now issued an Aviation Girl fun patch. The program is run in conjunction with WAI’s Girls in Aviation program in which individual chapters arrange introductory flights for girls at events in September.
