Aircraft that don’t fly often—and these days, that’s a lot of them—often suffer dead batteries. To avoid that, VDC Electronics has developed a line of battery chargers intended to remain connected when the aircraft is stored. At AirVenture 2016, VDC is showing the next generation of BatteryMINDer products specially calibrated for aircraft batteries.

These devices feature ambient temperature sensing so they can tailor the charge to the battery’s charge state, thus avoiding sulfation and/or overcharging. Owners can also determine the battery’s charge state and capacity, which is helpful to know when the battery is approaching the end of its service life.

In addition to the new CEC1-AA chargers, the company is also showing cables suitable for connecting the chargers to both experimental and certified aircraft. For the certified cables, VDC partnered with Audio Authority Corp. If you’re attending AirVenture, see the new BatteryMINDer at the Concorde Battery booth, in Hangar B, Booths 2053 and 2054.
