The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) announced the official launch of its online EAA Builder’s Log last week. According to the organization, the Builder’s Log is designed to provide aircraft homebuilders with a way to document projects and show compliance with the FAA rule that requires 51 percent of an aircraft be built by an amateur if it is going to be certified under the experimental amateur-built category. Builder’s Log users can post an unlimited number of searchable project records including photos, text, PDF documents and Excel files.

“Our hope is the EAA Builder’s Log will support our homebuilding members, allow them to share useful information and make it easier to document compliance with the 51 percent rule,” said EAA Director of Chapters and Homebuilding Charlie Becker. “Additionally, the searchable online log will be a great help to builders who may need to troubleshoot an issue with their aircraft.”

The program allows a single builder to log multiple projects and multiple users to log information on a group build. Builders can also make projects public so other users can follow their progress. EAA collaborated with aircraft builder and programmer Don White to create the Builder’s Log, which is available for free to EAA members.
