GE Aerospace’s GEnx engine family has passed the 50 million flight hour milestone, the company announced last week. Of those hours, nearly 32 million came from the GEnx-1B, which entered service in 2012 and powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Powering the Boeing 747-8, the GEnx-2B has logged 18 million hours since entering service in 2011.

“We are thrilled with the performance and staying power of the GEnx engine,” said Dave Kircher, GE Aerospace GEnx program general manager. “We appreciate all of our valued customers for helping the GEnx engine hit this milestone and look forward to the next 50 million hours of distinguished performance with operators around the world.”

According to GE, the GEnx family reached the 50 million hour mark faster than any of its other widebody engine lines, calling it “the fastest rate ever for a commercial widebody engine.” The company reports that GEnx engines are currently used by more than 70 operators worldwide and average over 450,000 flight hours per month. GE noted that there are now nearly 3,000 GEnx engines in service and on backlog.
