AVweb’s search of aviation news worldwide found an open house event at Garmin, an aviation film project on Kickstarter, key promotions at Blackhawk Modifications, and scholarship awards from the Aircraft Electronics Association. Garmin’s open house on June 11 will give its customers a rare look behind the scenes at the company’s headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. Those who want to visit the facility can reserve slots for the event online until June 4. The open house will begin with a meet-and-greet at 3 p.m., followed by a tour of Garmin’s flight simulator lab, manufacturing facility and product reliability lab. There also will be four educational sessions on topics including ADS-B installations. In addition to the Olathe open house, Garmin will host an additional event on June 25 at its Salem, Oregon, facility.An action sports filmmaker unveiled a new Kickstarter project called Fly Local 100: 100 short films about 100 people, groups and companies who love to fly. “The Fly Local 100 addresses the need to celebrate all of the facets of aviation. It’s a chance to unify the whole spectrum of flight: To bring together stories ranging from radio control to Space Ship One, student pilots, Learjet captains, Boeing executives and the flight simulation community all in one place,” Aran Eversman explains on the project’s Kickstarter page.

Blackhawk Modifications, a leading provider of Pratt & Whitney new engine upgrades, announced promotions in their senior management team. Bob Kromer will be the Senior Vice President of Business Development and Dealer Relations, a newly created position to help cultivate business opportunities. Edwin Black has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.The Aircraft Electronics Association’s Educational Foundation announced the names of 24 individuals who were awarded individual scholarships worth more than $125,000 for the 2015-16 academic year.This year, the AEA was honored to administer the inaugural Marshall Temple Memorial Scholarship for the first time. Temple founded Temple Electronics, and his company has been an AEA member since 1974. He passed away Nov. 16, 2014, at the age of 85. The AEA Educational Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in the general aviation maintenance and aircraft electronics industry.
