Joby says it could have its eVTOLs carrying paying passengers in the United Arab Emirates in 2026 and it has one of its display vehicles at AirVenture this year. We talked to Joby’s Greg Bowles about the program, certification and production of what he believes will be a revolution in air travel.

  1. Did they actually fly it in?

  2. The vehicle would be more aerodynamically efficient if it was covered by a rigid surface, say aluminum or composite. Fabric covering is probably lighter though. Designing an aircraft is full of trade-offs.

  3. Wing and canopy covers methinks…

  4. No the Joby was not flown in and is just a mockup. Beta did fly in their eCTOL (C for conventional) and demonstrated during a slot in the airshow. Seemed to be fairly agile.

  5. It is unlikely any of these will regularly fly passengers.
