Avidyne Moving On Cessna Citation Retrofits

Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • Avidyne has received STC certification for its IFD550/IFD540 navigators in Citation CJ525 and 525A jets, with plans for additional approvals covering CJ1+, CJ2+, and CJ3 models.
  • The IFD navigators bring modern capabilities such as LPV approach, electronic charting, wireless connectivity, ADS-B compliance, and 3D synthetic vision to these aircraft.
  • A key benefit is the IFD solution's direct interface with legacy avionics like the Collins Pro Line 21 and FGC-3000 digital autopilot, eliminating the need for interface adapters or EFIS upgrades in older Citation jets.

Avidyne has already earned STC certification for retrofit of the IFD550/IFD540 into the Citation CJ525 and 525A and now it’s working on more approvals for the CJ1+, CJ2+ and CJ3 Citation jets. With the IFD navigators, these aircraft will have LPV approach, electronic charting, wireless connectivity and ADS-B compliance.

Avidyne completed the first CJ certification in NASCAR legend Bill Elliot’s 2001 Cessna CJ1. Avidyne’s IFD solution provides direct interface with the legacy avionics in many of the older Citation jets without the need for interface adapters and EFIS upgrades. The current STC covers models with the Collins Pro Line 21 and the FGC-3000 digital autopilot.

The IFD adds other modern amenities including 3D synthetic vision, wireless connectivity to Avidyne’s IFD100 and the ForeFlight app for iPad. There’s also an option for Avidyne’s SkyTrax Mode S ADS-B transponders.
