The first two Tecnam P2012 Travellers were delivered to launch customer Cape Air in Hyannis, Massachusetts, this week after a 4,000-NM ferry flight from the Tecnam’s headquarters in Capua, Italy. The four-person ferry crew was led by Tecnam Chief Operations Officer Giovanni Pascale, whose family founded the company. The aircraft are the first of an order of 100 for Cape Air.

“A ferry flight across the Atlantic takes more than a safe, reliable aeroplane. It also takes skill, confidence and a great deal of experience,” Tecnam said. “It was a very rewarding experience for the Tecnam crew, chasing the sun from one country to another, right across the world, with breathtaking landscapes and stunning topography along the way, especially crossing the Labrador Sea between Greenland and Canada.”

To make the trip, the two aircraft were outfitted with collapsible tanks to carry an additional 450 liters (about 119 gallons) of fuel each. The flight was completed in three days, including stops in the Netherlands, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and Canada. As previously reported by AVweb, the P2012 received its FAA type certificate last April. The 11-seat commuter is powered by two 375-HP Lycoming TEO-540-C1A engines, has a top cruise speed of 194 knots, greater than 950-NM range with standard tanks and useful load of approximately 3073 pounds.
