The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has announced that it is forming a committee that will focus on rulemaking, standards setting and policy-related activities associated with “promising aviation technologies.” According to the organization, the Emerging Technologies Committee will provide NBAA with insights, conduct educational and training sessions, and liaise with industry organizations and regulators on areas including unmanned aircraft systems, urban air mobility, electric propulsion, unmanned traffic management and commercial space travel.

“NBAA is excited to launch this new committee to support developing technologies that represent significant growth opportunities for its member companies,” said NBAA director of air traffic services and infrastructure Heidi Williams. “The aviation professionals who make up this committee will help drive the future of aviation safety and policy.”

The committee is expected to meet for the first time at the 2019 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in October. It will be chaired by Robotic Skies CEO Brad Hayden with Boeing Horizon X’s Paul McDuffee as vice chair. NBAA is currently soliciting applications for additional committee members with experience in integrating emerging technologies into the National Airspace System (NAS), developing emerging technologies, supporting emerging technology infrastructure and training of emerging technologies.
